The name Bukchon, which literally translates to “northern village,” came about as the neighborhood lies north of two significant Seoul landmarks, Cheonggyecheon Stream and Jongno. Bukchon Hanok Village is an old residential area containing about 860 Hanoks (Korean traditional Houses). Today, many of these hanoks operate as guesthouses, retaurants and tea houses, cultural centers, etc. So visitors can experience Korean traditional culture.
